Nature Study

One of the things that has changed since we have started homeschooling is how much we notice and appreciate nature.
It's not that we didn't notice it before, but now we really stop and look at things like moss and fungi and leaves much more closely than ever.
Charlotte Mason said, "Never be within doors when you can rightly be without."
I was listening to a podcast on The New Mason Jar one day and this British lady named Lynn came on to share about her nature-themed curriculum called Exploring Nature with Children. After listening to her soothing voice I knew I had to have it! I bought it and we have loved having it as a resource!

Her curriculum is so wonderful with a description of each week's theme, an extensive book list, a poem and a piece of art to enjoy, and extension activities. I've decided that this along with whatever fun national days come up will be our science curriculum for the year. For what she offers I feel like it's reasonably priced and completely worth it to have!
Even if you don't use the curriculum, she offers a free calendar that lists each week's theme. Just seeing the theme of the week can help you be more intentional about what to look for and notice around you.

This week we will be studying the trees now that it's winter. Lots to see and notice!

You can follow her on Instagram at Raising Little Shoots or check out her blog for more ideas!
Will you be joining us in being more intentional with studying nature? Do you already have some fun nature study ideas in place? I would love for you to share!
Happy observing!
