Lazy Genius Principle 1: Decide Once

I absolutely love the book The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi. She has brilliantly come up with twelve principles in which to “lazy genius” your life. What does it mean to be a lazy genius? It means to be a genius about the things that matter and be lazy about the things that don’t… to YOU! So, what I choose to be lazy about will be different than what you choose to be lazy about, and that’s ok! The whole idea is to expend our energy on the things that matter most to us and stop wasting time on things that don’t.
Her first principle is to DECIDE ONCE.

Now that I’ve been reading this book for several weeks this little phrase pops into my head anytime I’m faced with making decisions. It’s seriously so brilliant.
The point is- make a decision ONE TIME and stick with it.
She suggests all kinds of ways and examples for how to decide once and they are all fantastic. Everything from cleaning to gift-giving to cooking and dressing yourself.
Here’s some ways that I have incorporated this idea:
-Monday Uniform
Kendra does this and I realized I have done this, too! I literally wear the exact same outfit every Monday. What, you ask? Well, it just happens to be navy blue yoga pants (no surprise there!) and a gray MOPS shirt from like… three years ago? I’m pretty sure I was pregnant with Cooper when I got it, but for some reason it’s my favorite shirt! So on Monday morning I don’t have to think about what to wear. I go to my closet, pull out that outfit, and I’m done!
I really get annoyed with meal planning. I mean, why must we eat three times a day every single day?? Ugh. So, meal planning was the most natural place to start:
-Brinner on Sundays
Unless we are not home or something surprising pops up, we will be having brinner on Sunday nights. Brinner means “breakfast for dinner” in case you didn’t know!
-Mexican Mondays
We rotate through taco soup, sheet pan quesadillas, our version of Mexican casserole, a jalapeno cornbread dish, and tacos.
-Italian Chicken Thursdays
This is dinner every single Thursday! It’s seriously the easiest meal ever. Pop chicken breasts in the crock pot, cover with a bottle of Newman’s Own Family Italian salad dressing and cook on low all day. A steamable bag of broccoli and a salad and dinner is done!
That’s about all I’ve got so far, but I’m working on being better! With homeschooling and keeping up with the housework I had LOTS of places where I can decide once and I'll slowly start adding things to this list.
What things can you decide once about? I’d love to hear!
