What’s the number one mistake we make when we read aloud to our kids? READING TOO FAST!
I’m guilty!
Listening is SUPER hard work!
This podcast was a fabulous reminder and example of how when we slow down and allow for some mental “white space” when we read aloud it makes for a much more luxurious reading experience for our kids- and for us.
Sarah reminds us that when we slow down we allow time for kids to form mental pictures in their minds, allow ourselves time for more vocal expression, and just allow ourselves time to sink into a connected experience with our kids.
She also gives us a fantastic excerpt she reads aloud from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe which I promise will make you want to pull it out and read with your kids! It sure makes me want to!
If you’re new to reading aloud or have been doing it awhile, this is worth a listen!
If you haven't checked out the Read Aloud Revival yet, be sure to head over there and peruse. So many good things and great booklists!
